It's nearly time for the 86th annual Academy Awards and we've got everything you need to know about the most prestigious night in the movie world.

The most prestigious evening in the movie business is edging ever closer but what's in store for this year's Oscars?

The 86th annual Academy Awards will take place next month and with it being a truly amazing year for cinema, the ceremony is shaping up to be one of the most incredible yet.

The Oscars producers recently revealed that superheroes like Superman, Spider-Man and Iron Man will be honoured at this year's ceremony for all the times they've saved the world (on screen).

Music-making mega-star Pharrell Williams has also been announced as to be performing his nominated song Happy at the star-studded ceremony.

It's also been a good year for the Brits too as British actors Chiwetel Ejiofor and Michael Fassbender are nominated for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively, while British films 12 Years a Slave and Philomena are up for a host of awards.

The ceremony will bring its usual glitz and glamour and a whole host of other questions: the biggest one being whether last year's Best Actress winner Jennifer Lawrence will trip again?

Find out everything you need to know about the 86th annual Academy Awards below.

Who's presenting the Oscars 2014?

Talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres will host the Oscars ceremony for a second time which, according to reports, will celebrate 'movie heroes'.

Producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron say the evening will honour big-screen real-life heroes, super heroes, popular heroes and animated heroes, both past and present, as well as the bold filmmakers who bring them to life.

In an official statement the producers said: “We wanted to unify the show with an entertaining and emotional theme.

“People around the world go to the movies to be inspired by the characters they see on the screen. By celebrating the gamut of heroes who have enriched our movie-going experience, we hope to create an evening of fun and joy.

"And that includes the filmmakers and actors who take risks and stimulate us with provocative subjects and daring characters. They are all heroes in the cinematic landscape."

Zadan and Meron added: “Of course, there will be no shortage of comedy with Ellen DeGeneres as our host. There may also be a few musical surprises along the way.

Which films and stars are tipped for glory?

American Hustle's Oscar-winning credentials have been given a boost after the cast picked up the top honour at the Screen Actor's Guild Awards.

Savvy punters have been quick to back the 1970s crime movie, which stars Christian Bale, after it scooped the key prize for outstanding cast.

Actor Bradley Cooper accepted the honour with other cast members at the ceremony in Los Angeles.

Ladbrokes say the odds now stand at 9/4 for the movie to win the Best Picture award at the Oscars on March 2, from 5/2 previously.

Steve McQueen's 12 Years A Slave still remains the strong odds-on favourite to win the top gong at 4/9.

The UK film is also chasing awards for best actor and best director, although Steve McQueen is unlikely to scoop the award from Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron, who is leading the pack with odds of 4/11.

Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: "Money talks, and since the SAG win American Hustle fans have piled into its odds of causing an upset at the Oscars."

Meanwhile, curly-haired Matthew McConaughey is the new odds-on favourite to land the Best Actor gong for his role in Dallas Buyers Club at 4/7, leaving British hope Chiwatel Ejiofor to drift out to 2/1.
